A former lottery pick, Duke prospect Cam Reddish could potentially be joining a third team early in his NBA career. After starting out with the Atlanta Hawks, he was traded to the New York Knicks during his third season. From there, he’s struggled to find his way into the rotation consistently in New York, and is reportedly on the trade market entering the deadline next week. In 20 games this season (eight starts), Reddish has averaged 8.4 points while shooting 30.4% from beyond the arc. Based on his on-court production value this season he’s actually worth less than his rookie scale deal, but ProFitX projects he has better days ahead.
According to reports, the Knicks are looking for two second-round picks for the 23-year-old. Given there hasn’t been any teams willing to part ways with that amount of draft capital to this point, perhaps a swap for another younger player could be a more reasonable avenue.
With that in mind, let’s use ProFitX’s trade model to identify four trade packages that could make sense as a starting point for the young wing, although draft compensation could be included one way or the other.
Denver Takes a Risk
As good as Zeke Nnaji has been for the Nuggets this season, they’re reportedly looking for a two-way wing at the deadline. In what would essentially be a position swap, Denver could bring in Reddish and take a gamble on his potential upside.
Rockets Continue Building Core
The Rockets seemingly have their center in the future in Alperen Sengun and will also have a 14% chance at Victor Wembanyama in the upcoming draft. As such, Bruno Fernando could be expendable at the deadline if Houston values wing talent moving forward.
Sixers Add Wing Depth
The Philadelphia 76ers are legit contenders this season, but should be open to making marginal moves at the deadline. Paul Reed has been a staple of the G League for several years now, but still has never emerged as a guy that can average double-digit minutes at the NBA level.
Spurs Take on Reclamation Project
If there’s any organization that can get the former lottery potential out of Reddish, it’s the San Antonio Spurs. In their system and developmental program, he could emerge as a legitimate piece of their rebuilding core.
